Accepting applications for the 2012 harvest season. The share cost for next season is $425 and is proportionate to 2 people. 2011 members joining us again for the coming year will keep the same as cost of $375.00 as a thank you.
At this time, we are only accepting cash or check payments. There is a non-refundable deposit of half the amount due by February, with the balance due before April 2011.
Please print the pdf application form, and either mail it with payment or stop by The Feed Barn to drop it off. Of course, please don't mail cash.
For those new members, I want to review a characteristic of community supported agriculture- Sharing the Risk with the Farmer.
Risk is a factor in any business. But in farming, the risk is greater than in most businesses because it is totally subservient to the whims of mother nature. When you join a CSA, you are declaring the importance of both knowing where your food comes from and then supporting that grower. By paying up front for a portion of the harvest, a CSA member shares the risk with the farmer that a percentage of the crops might fail. This arrangement benefits the farmer because he is assured a steady income, even without 100% crop success. The CSA benefits the members because they are assured a steady supply of fresh produce, grown without chemicals. They can visit the farm where their food comes from. And they can see that their money is staying in the local economy.
