It's time to pick up your weekly dose of romaine lettuce

Lettuce is on the menu again for the week.
If you get tired of washing and chopping it for salad then try a fruity lettuce smoothie. It's quite refreshing and vitamin packed, even more nutritious if you add the lamb's quarter.

Here's a couple of recipes I'll be serving at the market this Saturday...

Sweet Lettuce Smoothie
1 cup strawberries                   1 cup torn romaine leaves                 1/2 cup peach            1 cup ice cubes

Place all ingredients into a high powered blender and process for 45 minutes or until desired consistency is reached. It's a good start to your day and a good pick me up later.

Strawberry and Greens Smoothie
1 cup water    1 cup soy milk     2 cups fresh torn greens     1 cup frozen strawberries    2 bananas, peeled
Blend as above and enjoy.

Tidbit
Lettuce is said to be good for the skin, hair and a good cleanser of the liver. Interestingly, many varieties of lettuce actually contain a substance which is a mild natural opiate which can have a calming effect. This fact was known by civilizations long ago, such as the Romans and Greeks, who used it as an aid for sleeping.

Along with your lettuce there will be 1 dozen eggs for each CSA member.
See you tomorrow.

Did you really mean to process for 45 minutes?
