3 scheduled CSA pick up weeks left to go.

The CSA harvest season for 2011 is winding down. This week and the next two we will be harvesting anything that is ready and
putting it out on the pick up tables in the order that it was harvested. The year has not been an easy one to maneuver and the yield is lower than expected in every row and bed sown, so here's my plan to share it out; if I've harvested potatoes then egg plant, then leeks but did not get enough for all the CSA shares I will put the limited vegetable harvest out in the order it was harvested.

There is u-pic this week and along with cherry tomatoes, tomatillos and okra, you can also go through the edamame' (harvest 4-5 stalks per share) and pop corn (harvest 6 ears per share).

Something I've noticed from my 14 years experience of running a CSA is some members don't take all that is allowed, some take more than what is allowed, most take just what is allowed. It usually balances out. This year there is no room for those that take more. The harvest is always weighed in or counted in to the warehouse so I know exactly what the share size is for each vegetable. More than a few times a vegetable has run out before it should. Anyone taking more than what is noted is taking someones share and that's not fair!

The help is short. The work is still plenty. Please bear with me on these updates. Next years application will be published soon on this site.

Orders for chicken is being taken. Find the sign up sheet at the pick up.

We're still weeding rows that have yet to produce such as; romaine lettuces and greens. We finally decided to bush hog the Brussels sprouts, the sheep won't even eat them. It's so nice to see the front field looking cleaner.

Hope you have enjoyed the year so far.  Let me know how it went you and your family.
Linda
