Yea, rain! Yea, rain! Expect to find Swiss chard, onions and Hungarian sweet/hot pepper at the pick up today. Sweet corn is right on the cusp, this rain should plump up the kernels so we are crossing our fingers we can bring some in today. Lima beans (butterbeans) are
one week away, as are some of our tomatoes. Basil, tarragon, oregano, thyme, some rosemary in the U-pic garden, in front of the hoop house are available and u-pic okra is out in the field on the south side of the farm yard. Looks like it will be a little muddy on the path. Put a pair of scissors or small pruners in your car if you are interested in snipping some herbs and okra.
We have transplanted three 325 foot rows of lettuce 3 weeks ago. Most of it has made it through so far; it should be back on the menu in weeks to comes. Beets were transplanted about the same time but didn't fare as well. We will reseed the beet row this week and expect to harvest in October. We are planning to put a bed or two of loose leaf lettuce mix in now that the weeds have slacked off in their germination strength and it's looking like carrots may have a chance to get ahead of the Pig Weed. Even with the idiosyncrasies of this year we will keep a harvest going as far into fall/winter as possible.
