This year looks very promising

I installed 3 packages of bees last Sunday. They have been busy building and repairing their new home. Hopefully, they are exploring the locust tree blooms not to far from their location.

Carol gave birth to twins last week. Very healthy and hungry boys. Eight more moms to go!

Our big planting project this past week
was the potatoes. I think, without checking my notes, there was 600-700 pounds planted.  Kennebec for baking, Red Pontiac for boiling, as well as Norlands, they have a wonderful flavor. Yukon Gold, baker or boiler potato, and a French fingerling.  For every potato  planted we should get 6 pounds, in other words 2 pounds per mound optimally. But if you were a member last year you noticed this was not the case. Potatoes were in short supply. For every potato we planted we harvested one potato. We recovered our seed stock and that was all. Looking over my notes from last year, any harvest that needed a bloom to develop a crop had a difficult time developing to that end; tomatoes, peppers, beans. The greens did well though. Everything has it's season and takes it's turn I guess.   This year looks very promising. Both hoop houses are full of transplants waiting for the weather to stabilize and let them grow outside. Any transplants left after we plant our fields will be sold at The Feed Barn or Farmers market.

Can't wait until June! My almost three year old asked me today if we were going to the farm. I said, "We will soon, honey. June can't come soon enough for me!"
